Madison County, IL – A man and woman have been badly injured and four children escaped a house explosion near Maryville, Ill. Monday evening.
The couple had a propane delivery earlier in the day, according to authorities. The explosion occurred when the couple attempted to light the water heater.
The man suffered burns over 50 percent of his body, while the woman had extensive burns too but the extent of her injuries are unknown, according to authorities. Both managed to escape the burning house on their own, according to emergency crews, and each has been airlifted to area hospitals.
The four children in the house escaped unharmed, and officials believe they were upstairs when the house exploded.
No word on the condition of the man or woman.
