New Smyrna Beach, FL – High levels of carbon monoxide were found in a home where an elderly couple and their dog died Wednesday, according to New Smyrna Beach police.
Paul Berry, 90, and Juanita Berry, 89, were found in their master bathroom on Clubhouse Boulevard by visiting family members around 3 p.m., Lt. Shane Riggle said.
The family members called 911.
Their dog, Bo, was found dead in the living room.
Police said one of the Berrys left their Dodge Journey SUV running in the garage, and the exhaust fumes filled the home with carbon monoxide, Riggle said.
An autopsy, conducted on Thursday morning, determined the two had common signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.
An official cause of death won’t be established until the medical examiner’s office receives toxicology results.
The deaths appear to be accidental, he said.
Anyone with information about the couple can call New Smyrna Beach police at 386-424-2248.
