Christiansburg, VA – Carbon monoxide is suspected in the sickening of six people at a Christiansburg Goodwill store Friday.
Fire officials evacuated the store in the 200 block of Peppers Ferry Road just after 12:15 p.m., following a report of customers and employees complaining of nausea and headaches, according to a town news release.
The building was cleared and six unidentified people were taken to LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg. The news release stated Friday afternoon that the victims were in stable condition.
The illnesses were thought to be caused by carbon monoxide exposure, although the source of the gas had not been identified, the release stated.
The business was closed for several hours as the leak was investigated and the building was ventilated, and in that time levels of the potentially deadly gas returned to normal, the release stated.
