Troy, MI – Officials are investigating what caused a carbon monoxide leak at a Troy business that sickened two workers.
The employees believed to be a father and his son at Master Mechanical Insulation at 1775 E. Maple Road, were transported to an area hospital around 10 a.m. Monday.
Troy Fire Lt. Chuck Riesterer said his crews responded after one of the employees started having seizures.
The business which provides insulation services on commercial and industrial projects, according to its website had a carbon monoxide reader which was registering high readings.
When Troy firefighters checked the levels, carbon monoxide levels were reading 1,500 parts per million, said Riesterer. According to OSHA, the normal amount someone can be exposed to in the workplace is 25 parts per million in an eight-hour period.
Officials ventilated the building, propping the front door open with a broom. No other workers were at the building, officials said, and calls to the office were not returned.
Larry Cotsonika, who works next door to the insulation business at Salinger Electric Co., said his daughter who also works at Salinger saw the rescue operation.
