Wahoo, NE – Carbon monoxide was to blame for a rescue call to the Wahoo Meat Locker on Tuesday afternoon.

Wahoo Fire Chief Corey Wagner said the call came about 3 p.m. that two people were down at the building near the corner of Fifth and Chestnut streets in downtown Wahoo.

Upon arrival, the Wahoo Rescue Squad found an adult and a child with symptoms indicating possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

Wagner said they were lethargic.

Both of them were taken to Saunders Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Wagner said that the gas department was called and carbon monoxide was detected in the building.

“The gas department narrowed it down to a faulty damper on one of the smokers,” he stated.

The gas department stayed on scene for several hours.

“The gas department stuck around and monitored the CO levels,” he said.

Wagner said several other people were in the building at the time, but they did not require any treatment.

“The levels were higher in the room they were in, which was the office,” he said about the two that were transported to the hospital.

Wagner said there were no carbon monoxide detectors in the building.
