Lawton, OK – Two cafeteria workers at Lincoln Elementary School were taken to the hospital after being exposed to carbon monoxide on job Thursday afternoon.

Right now, they’re okay and recovering at home. According to LPS officials, a faulty piece of equipment on the dishwasher is to blame. One employee was taken to the emergency room; another was taken to an outpatient care center after being exposed to the toxic gas. The school did not use the cafeteria the following day. All 340 students at that school were brought lunch on Friday from other schools.

Maintenance crews have since taken gas readings inside the kitchen and have deemed the area safe. The affected employees had the day off, but are expected back at work on Monday.

No students were affected.
