Ontario, NY – Three kids, two adults and a first responder were hospitalized late last night after a generator filled a home with carbon monoxide in Wayne County.

The Ontario Fire Department says one child is in critical condition with a severe case of carbon monoxide poisoning and four other people from the home were also showing signs of illness.

A paramedic responding to the scene also became ill and was taken to the hospital.

They say a generator was running in the basement after the home’s power was shut off on Monday.

“I wanna stress please don’t run generators inside of the house, or close to any widows or doors,” said Lt. Aron Thompson, Ontario Fire Department. “You don’t know what’s going to happen or how much carbon dioxide will leak into the house and cause an illness or even death.”

Thompson says the incident was not weather related. The condition of the other victims is unknown at this time.
