Mount Shasta, CA – Two people were found dead inside what the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office described as “a structure” in the Shasta Vista area of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning Monday night, March 9.

Chengfang Su, 66, and Yangmel Wang, 66, both of Sacramento, were discovered by a family member, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Since a heater powered by a 20 pound propane tank was found in the room, authorities are leaning toward carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death, however, the official cause is still undetermined pending the outcome of an autopsy that’s scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 in Yreka.

Deputies responded to the scene just after 9:30 p.m. on Monday in the 13000 block of County Road A12 after receiving a call about the deaths.

Sheriff Jon Lopey said his department is saddened by the deaths and extended “thoughts and prayers to the decedents, their family members and friends.” He added that “there is no reason to believe there is an immediate public safety threat arising from this incident.”

Those with information can call the Sheriff Office’s 24 hour dispatch center at (530) 841-2900.
