Hermann, MO – Carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected in the Thursday morning death of a 13-year-old Hermann boy.

According to emergency service agency personnel, the boy, sleeping in the home’s basement, was found unresponsive this morning by his father.

The other children in the family were moved outside the home, later taken to the hospital as a precaution, treated and released.

The teenager’s identity was not released. An autopsy to officially determine the cause of death is scheduled for Friday in Boone County, according to the city police report.

“It appears to be a tragic accident,” Police Chief Marlon Walker said.

The chief urged residents to check their furnaces, check and clean filters and install carbon monoxide detectors, especially now that the weather is turning cooler and prompting families to begin using furnaces.
