On the night of July 18, 2025, a carbon monoxide leak at a home in Garnett, Kansas, led to the hospitalization of nine people, including eight first responders and one civilian. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office reported that emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. for a person in cardiac arrest, only to discover dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide in the residence, prompting an immediate evacuation. The Sheriff’s Office noted that the gas concentration was at a fatal level, requiring three additional ambulances to transport the affected individuals to Anderson County Hospital, where all were reported in stable condition. The incident remains under investigation to determine the source of the leak.
