Alpine, TX – The City of Alpine Gas Department has determined that a faulty water heater is to blame for the carbon monoxide leak that caused roughly 75 students from Sul Ross State University to be evacuated from Lobo Village Units 2 and 3.
Utilities Director Randy Guzman tells CBS 7 News that his crew has already secured the leak and will begin making repairs either Friday or over the weekend.
When Guzman’s crew first entered the buildings the carbon monoxide levels were at 100% and as of 3:00 p.m. they have dropped to 33%.
Guzman is hoping to get students back into their apartments by the end of the day.
