Lake Delton, WI – A resort in Lake Delton was evacuated late Wednesday evening because of a carbon monoxide leak, according to the Delton Fire Department.
The incident happened at the Sunset Bay Resort in the 900 block of Canyon Road in the Village of Lake Delton.
According to the fire department, the CO alarm went off inside the resort around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The resort was evacuated after the alarm went off. The fire department determined 26 of the 46 rooms at the resort were occupied when the alarm went off. All guests left the building without incident.
The fire department determined that a faulty water heater in the basement utility room caused the CO leak. The fire department used fans to ventilate the resort. Once normal air readings were recorded, guests were allowed to return to their rooms.
The resort had adequate CO detectors, according to the fire department. Fire officials said the incident is a good reminder to businesses and homeowners to install and regularly test CO detectors in any place where there are gas appliances.
