Winchester, VA – Two unconscious electrical contractors, apparently poisoned today by carbon monoxide fumes, are being treated at Winchester Medical Center.
Jonathan Miller, of Winchester-based Consolidated Electric Services, said he went to a vacant home being renovated at 687 Berryville Ave. to do painting and found co-workers Gus Gustavo and Neal Schutts unconscious on the basement steps of the home. Miller, who said he smelled strong fumes, ran outside and called 911 about 11:35 a.m.
Winchester Fire Chief Allen Baldwin said firefighters removed the two men, who were treated by paramedics and hospitalized. He said the workers were running equipment in the basement, and carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected. Firefighters ventilated the home and tested the air quality.
Renaye Martin, whose family owns the home, said the tenants who lived in the house moved out over the weekend and that the contractors began doing renovations today.
