San Marcos, TX – Two incidents of carbon monoxide exposures were reported in San Marcos this week, one of them fatal.
The first incident happened Tuesday night when crews found 57-year-old Rob Schmid dead in an underground chamber at the AE Wood State Fish Hatchery. Fire Marshal Ken Bell says Schmid was working on an underground pump when he was exposed to the gas. Bell says the gas levels were five times the limit that people can be safely exposed to.
The fire marshal also reports a worker at a private construction site was operating machinery when he was exposed Wednesday morning. He is currently in the hospital.
