Wyomissing, PA – An elevated level of carbon monoxide forced the evacuation of a bank in Berks County only a few minutes before it was set to open its doors to customers Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 9 a.m. to the Santander Bank at Penn Avenue and Park Road in Wyomissing.
Fire officials told 69 News that they detected elevated levels of the gas inside the building, which they then ventilated.
Six bank employees were evacuated and evaluated on the scene, according to Chief Colin Hackman, Township of Spring Fire & Rescue.
Investigators have not been able to pinpoint the source of the carbon monoxide, Hackman said.
Eastbound traffic on Penn Avenue was detoured for a time while emergency crews were on the scene.
