Daytona Beach, FL – A 9-year-old boy has died from possible carbon-monoxide poisoning inside a Daytona Beach home Monday morning, investigators said.
Authorities said a generator was running inside the home on the 100 block of Mason Park.
Police said Jose Barrio, his 5-year-old boy and their parents were overcome by the fumes.
The mother was incoherent, but was able to go next door for help, police said.
The mother appeared to be out of it, like in a daze, said Capt. Craig Capri with the Daytona Beach Police Department said.
Police said towels were under a closed door of a room where a generator was inside. The generator was not on when police entered the home. It appeared to have run out of gas, police said.
The child’s parents and younger sibling were taken to Halifax Hospital, but their conditions are unknown.
Neighbors told Channel 9’s Michael Springer that the family took the generator inside the home because they worried looters might take it.
