Dekalb County, AL – Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says that one man is dead and two others are hospitalized after a relative discovered the men unconscious in a home they were renovating in Rainsville. Officials believe that the three succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning while working in the home on Saturday.Sheriff Harris says that the home did not have electricity, so the men were using a generator with an electrical drop cord run into the home. The generator had been placed underneath the home and, apparently, exhaust fumes seeped into the house overwhelming the men.51-year old Charles Gerald Downer of Rainsville was pronounced dead at the scene.24-year old Thomas Michael Daniel of Woodville and 25-year old Alfred Arland Crosby of Rainsville were both airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.Daniel was treated and released on Sunday, Crosby was listed in satisfactory condition this morning.Harris used the event to remind everyone to always read owner’s manuals and safety instructions on equipment and to always make sure equipment is properly ventilated.
