Union City, NY – For the second time within six days, 12 people in a Union City apartment building were forced to leave their home Friday night due to high levels of carbon monoxide.
The same tenants had been forced out of their homes Sunday, Feb. 17 for the same problem.
Police and fire officials arrived at the 24th Street building around 8:30 p.m. Friday night and found that high levels of the colorless, odorless gas had been coming from the building’s heating system, police said.
All residents were assisted by police and relocated to a North Bergen hotel while repairs are made to the heating and boiler system, police said.
Last week Sunday, the same building was evacuated after North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue officials discovered high levels of carbon monoxide coming from the building’s heating system.
Residents were allowed back into their homes last week Monday, but were forced out after the building’s latest bout with carbon monoxide. Police said repairmen will be making repairs before the residents are allowed back in the building.
