Mansfield, TX- MANSFIELD — A couple and their child were recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning Wednesday, two days after the adults were found unconscious in their house with their vehicle still running in a closed garage.

Jordan and Carolyn Lewis and their 2-year-old were resting at his parents’ home Wednesday, Jordan Lewis’ mother, Joan Lewis, said.

“The entire family is going to put carbon monoxide detectors in our garages,” Joan Lewis said. “You can bet on it.”

Early Monday morning, a family member became worried when the boy was not dropped off at day-care and the parents didn’t respond to phone calls, according to a police news release.

The family member went to the house on Zachary Court about 8:45 a.m. and found the family’s Chevy Trailblazer running in the garage.

“Further investigation revealed a male and female family member were inside the house, but were unresponsive,” according to the news release. The toddler “was awake and alert.”

They were treated by emergency rescue personnel and taken to three different Fort Worth hospitals by ground and air ambulance, the child as a precautionary measure. The father, 33, and son were released on Tuesday, and the mother, 31, on Wednesday, Joan Lewis said.

The adults were weak but resting comfortably, she said.

The couple had attended a family gathering on Sunday, and apparently left the SUV running as they unloaded food and other items, she said.

Initially, police reported that Carolyn Lewis was in extremely critical condition.

“Preliminary information indicates this to be a tragic accident,” the news release stated. “Further investigation will need to be done to determine the actual cause.”
