OH – An explosion shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday destroyed a home at 1144 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron.

Akron Fire Capt. Albert Bragg said the blast appears to have been caused by a natural gas explosion.

The house ”was obviously blown to smithereens,” he said.

Bragg said the home was vacant, and it appears no one was inside. No one was injured.

Debris from the 564-square-foot ranch house was scattered across a wide area and damaged eight other nearby homes.
