Firefighters in Fontana, California, responded to an apartment on the 16500 block of Athol Street, where they found multiple residents — including a child — suffering symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure such as vomiting, weakness, and unresponsiveness. After evacuating the unit and bringing in a hazardous materials team, responders confirmed dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide inside the apartment.

All six people, ranging in age from about 5 to 64, were transported to hospitals with conditions ranging from stable to critical, and nearby units were evacuated as a precaution. The source of the leak remains under investigation, and authorities emphasized the importance of working carbon monoxide detectors in homes.
