Chambersburg, PA – At least a dozen people went to the hospital after being exposed to carbon monoxide at the new Chambersburg Aquatic Center over the weekend.

The borough manager, Jeffrey Stonehill, said the CO leak came from the deep fryer and ventilation hood in the concessions stand.

The incident started on Saturday when the concessions stand manager went to the hospital with chest pains. At the time, Stonehill said they thought it was medical or stress related.

On Sunday, other employees felt light head, nauseous, and weak. It was then discovered there was carbon monoxide in the concessions stands.

Between ten and fifteen children and two adult employees were taken to the hospital for testing and observation, according to Stonehill. He said everyone was released after routine testing.

Stonehill, who referred to the incident in a news release as minor, said the borough would pay for all costs associated with the malfunction.

The pool is open for business. The concession stand reopened on Monday, without the fryer.

The new $7.7 million facility just opened to the public last week.
