Claysburg, PA – The investigation into high carbon monoxide levels at the Sheetz Distribution Center continued Tuesday after levels were found to be high for the second time in less than two weeks.
Last week, nine Sheetz employees went to a hospital as a precaution after the company found high levels of carbon monoxide in an area where a contractor was working.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials said they received an anonymous tip Tuesday morning about the high levels. A spokesperson said they plan to send an investigator to the distribution center again.
Sheetz sent 6 News a statement that reads, in part:
No Sheetz employees needed to seek medical treatment as a result of yesterday’s testing. The freezer and cooler areas were ventilated immediately and levels were back to a safe area last night.
That same distribution center apparently received fines totaling $14,000 from OSHA in 2012, according to records posted online, for “Process safety management of highly hazardous chemicals.”
A Sheetz representative said Tuesday that the 2012 incident has nothing to do with the recent carbon monoxide levels.
