Strasburg, PA – Eight people reported feeling ill after a carbon monoxide issue at a Paradise Township home Monday night.
Fire crews were dispatched to a home on Summit Hill Road around 7 p.m. and found carbon monoxide levels of 350 parts per million inside with the higher levels around a coal stove, according to Strasburg Fire Company’s Assistant Chief Justin Wright.
The colorless, odorless gas becomes toxic to adults at 35 ppm.
Wright said none of the adults and children who were in the home initially reported feeling ill but later expressed they felt sick. All declined medical treatment.
The carbon monoxide problem was traced to a crack in the stove, which was taken out of service, Wright said. The family had other heat sources and was able to return to the home after it was ventilated.
In a separate incident, a medical response was requested by fire officials who were dispatched to a carbon monoxide problem in the 600 block of Garfield Drive in West Donegal Township around 9:30 p.m.
Initial reports indicated two people in the home needed to be checked out after possible carbon monoxide exposure. No other information was immediately available.
