Park Ridge, IL- A Park Ridge resident died Friday of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning inside a residence, fire officials said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the resident as Thomas E. Kean, 79.

According to the Park Ridge Fire Department, paramedics were called to a home on the 1000 block of Bonita Drive shortly before 3 a.m. for a 911 call of a suspected carbon monoxide leak. Upon entering the home, paramedics found three occupants who were described as “critically ill,” a press release from the fire department said.

The residents were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by Park Ridge and Rosemont paramedics, where one of them died, the fire department said.

Fire officials said they believe a car left running in an attached garage for several hours caused carbon monoxide to build up in the home.
