Southington, CT – Four people were taken to the hospital after a propane fireplace exploded in a home on Spring Lake Road on Thursday night. One person was later taken to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital.
Most of the injuries consisted of superficial burns, but medical personnel were concerned about inhalation burns, which can take a day to show up, said Fire Capt. Mark Saucier.
The explosion happened at 236 Spring Lake Road just before 6 p.m., fire officials said. Residents were trying to repair the fireplace when it exploded, Saucier said.
The fire marshal and building inspector were at the home on Thursday night. The home will be inhabitable, Saucier said. Damage included a blown out window.
