Clark, NJ – A homeowner was injured when his dryer exploded and blew out windows of his Clark house Thursday afternoon,

officials said.

The explosion was reported shortly before 2 p.m. on Fairview Road. Police and fire officials, along with a utility crew, are

investigating.

Two windows and a sliding glass door at the rear of the home were blown out by the explosion, said Deputy Fire Chief John Pingor.

The homeowner suffered first‑degree burns to his left arm, Pingor said.

Pingor said the homeowner was using the dryer when something caused it to explode, damaging sheetrock in the house and

singeing the sheets he was drying.

Authorities are investigating what caused the explosion. Firefighters ventilated the structure, and a utility crew was looking for any natural gas leak in the home.

There was no damage to surrounding homes, and the homeowner should be able to sleep in his house tonight, according to

Pingor.

“For a dryer to explode from natural gas, it’s very rare,” he said.

But he said they haven’t confirmed natural gas caused the explosion.

“If it’s not natural gas, we’ll have to look at other options,” Pingor said.
