West Fargo, ND – A furnace is being blamed for high carbon monoxide levels at a restaurant and preschool on Monday, leading to the evacuation of children and staff.

A person reported being lightheaded at Subway, 109 E. Main Ave., about 9:30 Monday morning. Paramedics determined the victim may have been suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and called for the Fire Department to respond.

Firefighters measured the carbon monoxide levels at the restaurant and adjoining Appletree Preschool and found them slightly elevated, leading to the evacuation.

No staff or children reported feeling ill.

The Fire Department determined a malfunctioning furnace was the likely source. The building was ventilated and later reoccupied when carbon monoxide levels returned to normal.
