Lake Minnetonka, MN – Carbon monoxide poisoning is being blamed for the death of an 8-year-old girl on Lake Minnetonka Sunday.

A letter home to parents from the principal of Concord Elementary School in Edina says the victim was a second grader there, and names carbon monoxide as the cause of her death. The source of that information was the child’s parents.

Counselors were on hand Monday morning when the girl’s classmates were told of her death. Principal Tony Washington says those who are most upset by the news will be provided individual attention and counseling.

First responders were called to COV Wayzata located at 700 Lake St. East just before 5 p.m. Sunday where they found the girl on a dock. Paramedics transported the girl to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died. At the time Hennepin County Sheriff’s officials said it was not a drowning, but did not elaborate.

Plymouth and Orono Police, the Minnesota State Patrol and Wayzata Police and Fire all responded to the 911 call.

The child’s identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
