Pittsburgh, PA – An 89-year-old died today of an apparent accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in his Baldwin Borough home, the police chief there said.
A car parked in the home’s garage was out of gas, and its key was the “on” position, Chief Michael Scott said.
“The car was hot, so it seemed like it was possibly running overnight,” he said.
The man’s daughter found him in the house around 11:30 a.m., and she was transported to the hospital for elevated levels of carbon monoxide.
Baldwin police, fire and emergency medical services responded at 11:52 a.m. to the 5100 block of East Willock Road, according to an Allegheny County emergency dispatch supervisor.
Chief Scott was unsure if there was a carbon monoxide detector in the home and did not identify the man, who lived alone, or his daughter.
Allegheny County police responded, but “seemed satisfied it was accidental,” Chief Scott said.
