Long Beach, CA – Personnel at a Long Beach construction site may have been exposed to carbon monoxide Thursday morning.

Long Beach firefighter paramedics responded to the area of Carson Street and Cherry Avenue around 9:47 a.m., according to an alert on the Pulse Point smartphone application, which sends out the time, location and other information broadcast to emergency dispatchers.

Two people were taken to a hospital for treatment of possible carbon monoxide inhalation, confirmed Jake Heflin, a fire department spokesman. Investigators believe equipment used on the site may have been emitting the gas.

Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms include headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. The gas can cause death at high enough concentrations.

The incident was reported to the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health and remains under investigation, Heflin said.
