Benton Harbor, MI – Names have been released after one person died and several more — including first responders — were treated for carbon monoxide exposure on a boat Sunday afternoon near Jean Klock beach in Benton Harbor, according to Berrien County police.

Berrien County police say the victims were below deck on a boat at Jean Klock Beach when reports came in.

One boat occupant, 53-year-old Leonard Anthony Russian of Cass County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richard E. Cook, 63, or Grangerwas taken to a hospital in Grand Rapids.

Lorri Lynn Mroz, 45, of Cass County was listed in stable condition.

Several first responders were also admitted to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Berrien County Sheriff was notified of an unknown medical emergency on a boat in Lake Michigan off Jean Klock Park. First responders located three victims in the boat

and all three were transported by Medic One to Lakeland Saint Joe. Lakeland Hospital pronounced one victim dead on arrival, one was transported to Grand Rapids, and the third was listed as stable. Several first responders were also admitted to Lakeland Hospital for carbon monoxide exposure.

Berrien County Sheriff Dept is currently investigating this call as an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. The call remains under investigation.
