Bakersfield, CA – A man who suffered burns to 80 percent of his body in an Aug. 6 gas explosion has died, according to firefighters.

Robert Sprenger, 65, died Tuesday at UCLA’s burn unit, a Bakersfield Fire Department news release said.

Firefighters determined the explosion at a mobile home park in the 3500 block of Stine Road was accidental and caused by a natural gas leak.The blast damaged 13 mobile homes and five cars.

Sprenger lived in the home where the blast originated. Total damage is estimated at $250,000.
