James City County, VA – Three construction workers were taken to the hospital Wednesday after being overcome by carbon monoxide in James City County, according to fire officials.

The incident occurred around noon at a home on Marstons Lane.

When firefighters arrived, they found one construction worker outside of the residence complaining of trouble breathing. This worker, who called 911, said there were two other workers in the basement of the home.

He said they had been using a gas-powered saw.

Firefighters said there were carbon monoxide readings of 1,244 parts per million inside the home.

The two other construction workers were found in the basement and were unconscious. The stairs to the basement had been removed so firefighters used a ladder to reach the workers. They were rescued using the ladder and a rope hoist system.

All three construction workers were transported to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. Their condition is not known

There were no firefighter injuries.
