Delhi, IA – Two people were hospitalized Saturday after they were found unresponsive in a parked car. Authorities believe the pair were victims of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Cole Haan, 18, of Epworth, and Nichole Lucas, 17, of Manchester, were flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after they were found in a parked car on South Street in Delhi, adjacent to Maquoketa Valley High School. The hospital would not provide condition reports Sunday.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department said the car had been running for more than an hour in the same spot. First responders gained entry to the locked vehicle and administered first aid. The pair were transported to Regional Medical Center in Manchester before being flown to Iowa City.
An investigation revealed several defects in the vehicle’s exhaust system.
