Monroe County, MI – A man was injured seriously with burns on his face and hands after a propane heater exploded about 7:30 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of W. Eighth St.
The victim was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, where he was expected to be treated in the burn center, Monroe fire Lt. Matthew Poremba said.
Although no fire resulted from the explosion, the impact blew out the windows on the front door to the enclosed porch, where the heater had been placed.
There also was damage to the door frame and windows. Lt. Poremba said the equipment appears to have had a fuel leak, which ignited when it was lit. First responders to the scene included the Monroe Fire and Police Departments. Monroe Township Fire Department initially was called but not needed.
