Rochester, NY – City firefighters said a malfunctioning boiler created a carbon monoxide buildup at a three-unit house at 31 Park Ave. around 3 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters ventilated the two-story house, which was enveloped in smoke. People were said to be home at the time of the fire but crews helped them to escape. No one required a trip to the hospital.
The five residents of the units were being assisted by family, friends or the Red Cross, firefighters said.
Firefighters said the cause of the malfunction has not been determined and residents will have to stay away until heat in the building is restored.
