Tulsa, OK – An explosion Wednesday night at east Tulsa’s Bristol Park Apartments remains under investigation, but Tulsa Fire Department spokesman Capt. Stan May says the incident is being called accidental at this time.

Some two dozen people were forced to evacuate following the explosion around 10 p.m. at the complex near 44th and Garnett.

Sandro Diaz lives in the affected building.

“I started to move all my kids out of the apartment and was very big mess everyone was confused, no one knew what to do,” said Diaz.”I called 911 and the police showed up very very fast.”

Prior to the explosion, May says some residents smelled gas.

The building’s remains have been secured enough for investigators to move around, but May says the structure is not safe and it will be up to the insurance company to determine if the building will be torn down or rebuilt.

About 40 people were displaced and 16 units affected.

May says it’s amazing no one was injured.

The cause remains under investigation.
