Monessen, PA – Four residents of a Monessen home were transported to Mon Valley Hospital for precautionary reasons this afternoon due to a high carbon monoxide count in the home, officials said.

The occupants of 735 S. 14th St. first contacted Peoples Natural Gas about smelling fumes in the two-story home, said Monessen Fire Chief Chris Rhome. A representative of the gas company then contacted the fire department from the home about dangerous conditions from fumes from a faulty water heater, Chief Rhome said.

He said residents of the home were alert and conscious, but they were taken by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation after the call came in at about 2:40 p.m.

The names of the individuals were not released.
