St. Louis, MO – Students at Nance Elementary School this morning were evacuated to a nearby church for about two hours due to a carbon monoxide leak.

Maintenance crews found that the leak was coming from the school’s boiler room, where a detector exposed an unsafe level of carbon monoxide in the air, said Patrick Wallace, spokesman for St. Louis Public Schools. A problem boiler was turned off, and the levels returned to normal.

Fire crews on the scene gave authorization for children to return to the building, at 8959 Riverview Boulevard, around 11:30 a.m. Two children are receiving a medical evaluation as a precautionary measure.
