Conover, NC – Two Conover women were hospitalized from carbon monoxide poisoning after one of the women accidentally left her vehicle running in the garage overnight (December 1 & 2).
The victim’s S.U.V. utilizes a remote control device to turn the ignition on and off. Authorities believe the vehicle wasn’t shut off properly. Carbon monoxide apparently built up overnight and spread through the attic of three units, including one neighbor’s storage area.
Emergency personnel used fans to remove the poisonous gas from the three units at Cambridge Place Townhomes on Thornburg Drive.
Carbon monoxide levels were measured at over 200 parts per million about a foot from the victims’ front door. A carbon monoxide detector would typically sound an alarm at 35 parts per million or higher.
Two women suffered from dizziness, headaches and nausea. They were expected to spend Monday night in the hospital.
