Glocester, RI – The manager of the mobile home park where an explosion happened over the weekend believes a propane gas leak is to blame for the incident.

Crews were called to the scene on Hemlock Drive in the Chepachet section of Glocester shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.

“About 10:13, I was sitting on the couch, watching TV, and next thing I know the whole trailer shook. I heard a humongous boom,” said neighbor Willis Leonard.

The force of the blast leveled the home, which police say was vacant and for sale.

“Just the noise was like I thought an airplane had crashed into it,” neighbor Roger Beaudreault told Eyewitness News. “It was just a giant red flame. That was all we had seen in our windows.”

While no one was hurt, some flying debris did cause some minor damage to Leonard’s home, which is nearby.

“There’s a skirting that goes around the bottom that’s all blown out. I have some screen damage. Shutter damage. No windows broken. It’s amazing. No windows broken,” he explained. “I had pictures on the walls and things like that there — and they came flying off. Everything in the medicine cabinet is on the floor.”

Other neighbors said the explosion was felt on Sawmill Road, more than five miles from the explosion site.

Meanwhile, the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
