Milwaukee, WI – A faulty boiler could be the cause of a carbon monoxide leak at a home near 27th and Greenfield that sent five people to the hospital Friday morning.
The Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the home in the 2700 block of W. Greenfield Avenue just after 5 a.m.
Officials say carbon monoxide readings in the home were as high as 430 parts per million, enough to cause life threatening injuries within three hours.
A total of five people in the home were taken to the hospital after falling ill.
Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that has no color, odor, or taste. Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms include a sudden feeling of nausea, dizziness, breathlessness, and loss of consciousness. Concerns should be elevated if others around you are experiencing the same symptoms at the same time.
If you suspect a significant carbon monoxide leak, call 911 and immediately move outside to fresh air.
