Orlando, FL – Five people were treated then transported to local hospitals following a carbon monoxide leak at a grocery store near Pine Hills, Orange County Fire Rescue officials say.
A Hazmat team was sent to the Caribbean Supercenter at 5111 West Colonial Drive about 6:40 p.m. Monday after one person who was pressure washing an area in the back of the store and several other people reported symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas, which can cause sudden illness or death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
It is not clear what caused the gas leak or if the five people who were hospitalized were employees or customers at the store. The names and conditions of the victims were not released Monday evening.
