Canadaigua, NY – Four children were taken to the hospital Friday after elevated levels of carbon monoxide were detected at a Canandaigua child care facility.

According to Dawn Dennis, the director of Our Children’s Place on Wilcox Lane, all four kids are expected to be okay.

A leak in a boiler was the apparent source of the CO.

A total of 50 kids and 12 staff members were evacuated by the time emergency crews arrived. The kids were brought to a nearby library to be picked up by parents.

“I trust the daycare. I think they handled it appropriately,” said Janene Brahm, a parent. “We’ve had false alarms in the past. They’re well prepared for what to do with the children, and getting them out, and getting them treated. I’m glad the emergency squad took care of them as needed.”

“It was nap time, so they gently woke the kids up and took them down the street and called us, and we went from there. So, it went quite well,” said Canandaigua Fire Chief Mark Marentette.

Repairs are underway and the center expects to be back open on Monday.
