Stamford, CT – STAMFORD — Three people were transported to the hospital, reportedly for carbon monoxide poisoning, on Thursday following a leak at a local temple.

Temple Sinai on Lakeside Drive reported at 10:30 a.m. that three people felt nauseous and had headaches after a carbon monoxide leak in the building that morning, according to Stamford Fire Chief Peter Brown.

Brown said the leak was stopped, but people felt ill afterwards.

The three complainants were transferred to Stamford Hospital for medical attention.

Firefighters and medics are on scene evaluating children and adults who were inside the temple at the time of the leak, Brown said.

Temple Sinai president Arlene Rosen said Thursday that an unusual odor was detected in the temple’s Kid’s Zone Playroom.

The smell was detected during a session of the Jewish Community Center Sara Walker Nursery School, she said.

Rosen said emergency responders were called immediately and that no source for carbon monoxide or other contaminants was found.

“We are continuing to seek guidance from emergency personnel concerning the origin of the odor. The children and staff at Jewish Community Center Sara Walker Nursery School are our highest priority and we will do all that is necessary to ensure their safety,” Rosen said.
