Lincoln Park, MI – Authorities in a Detroit suburb say a woman was seriously injured after an explosion forced her through an apartment’s picture window and into a parking lot.

Lincoln Park Fire Capt. Scott Lewis said the woman in her 40s suffered third-degree burns and was taken to a hospital after the Saturday morning blast. She was alone in the apartment.

Lewis says the explosion heavily damaged the four-unit complex, lifting the roof and moving walls. No other injuries were reported in the complex but residents have been evacuated until repairs can be made.

Lewis says it initially appears to have been a natural gas explosion and added the unit recently had its gas service restored after a shut-off.

DTE Energy spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba says the cause remains undetermined and crews are investigating.
