Unionville, MI – Law enforcement officials continue to investigate exactly what caused a rural Unionville home to explode over the weekend.
About 12:41 a.m., Sunday, the Unionville Fire department was dispatched to a report of a house explosion on 5905 Rick Road in northeast Columbia Township. The Akron and Gagetown fire departments were also called to the scene along with ACW ambulance and Tuscola County Sheriff deputies.
It was found that one person had been in the house at the time of the explosion and was later found deceased, said Undersheriff Glen Skrent. The State Fire Marshall was called in to investigate and preliminary reports point to a gas leak that caused the explosion.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to confirm identity and cause of death of the victim, therefore the name will not be released until after the autopsy, noted Skrent.
