Greene County, MO – Greene County authorities believe a propane leak caused the explosion of a mobile home Sunday afternoon on Farm Road 92, north of Springfield.
Although the case remains under investigation, Maj. Phil Corcoran said the incident appears to be an accident.
Corcoran said 33-year-old Kenneth Agan suffered second- and third-degree burns.
A neighbor, Kathy Welch, said Sunday she was watching TV when she heard the explosion.
The man ran to her house, asking for help.
The man’s clothes were melting to him, Welch said.
His head was still smoking.
Welch, who said she has past medical experience at a burn center, put the man in a shower at her home for about 15 minutes because she knew he had to get water on him.
Welch said the man told her he was smoking a cigarette when he entered the trailer through the back door, before the explosion occurred.
Ebenezer Fire Protection District was the first to respond.
Battalion Chief Lucas Scott said responders were able to get the fire under control quickly.
Fair Grove, Pleasant View and Willard fire departments also responded.
Deputy Sheriff Mike Robertson said the man was transported to Mercy Hospital, and an investigator would later determine the cause of the explosion.
