Westfield, NY – A house was destroyed, but no one was hurt when leaking natural gas exploded and set a house on fire late this morning in Westfield.

The blaze, reported at 10:53 a.m., destroyed 8131 McKinley Road in Westfield, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said in a report.

Police said an investigation by the Westfield Fire Department and the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team determined the fire was caused by a natural gas explosion.

The Sheriff’s Office determined the home was supplied with non-odorized natural gas from an old private gas well on the property. A gas leak in the basement led to the explosion.

The home was completely destroyed. No one was at home at the time of the incident.
